Shelfanger is located approximately 2 ½ miles north west of the market town of Diss. Shelfanger is a small compact village, with houses in four roads, and outlying farms surrounding it. There are 30 listed buildings, some of which have been carefully restored and new buildings have been added in the styles suited to the village.
The central point of the village is the crossroads, where two minor roads to left and right intersect the main road. Circling the village are farms and arable farmland. In most parts of outer Shelfanger, you can see miles of crops on all sides, with an occasional house here and there. A stream runs right through the village ending in the Waveney at Scole.
