Hingham is a lovely little market town approximately 6 miles from Wymondham, 7 miles east of Watton and 15 miles from Norwich. For a town of its size there are a surprising number of shops, selling a huge variety of produce and goods.
There are a number of beautiful Georgian buildings grouped around the charming old market place, and in other areas. These are all overlooked by the 120ft tower of St Andrew’s Church which among other things, houses a bronze bust of Abraham Lincoln commemorating the historic links Hingham has with America – in the 1600’s, some villagers left Hingham to sail to America and among them was Samuel Lincoln, an ancestor of the 16th US President.
The windmill was built in 1829 and is a listed building although it is now without its sails and fantail. The watermill, on the Deopham Road is very unusual as it is not sited on a river but is fed by several nearby springs.
There's plenty of great walking, cycling and wildlife watching opportunities in the surrounding area and combined with great fishing, several easily accessible golf courses and both motor racing at Snetterton and horse racing at Fakenham, this fabulous location has plenty to offer at any time of year.
