Situated along the B1113 approximately 7 miles south of the town of Attleborough, the village stretches for almost 2 miles. At its centre, there is an attractive tree-lined village green, surrounded by thatched houses and overlooked by church - St Mary the Virgin.
Banham has been a centre for cider making for generations, Gaymers Cider, a nationally renowned brand, now no longer made in East Anglia, although the award winning Banham Cider is still made in the village by a small independent company. Once a thriving brick-making industry it is now best known for Banham Zoo, one of the regions region's top tourist attractions.
It occupies a 35 acres site with landscaped gardens and is home to birds of prey, Shire horses, penguins, lemurs, monkeys and apes. On Sundays it hosts one of the biggest car boot sales in the area.
